Video Premiere: Nicki Minaj - Starships

First I will say I don't really care for this song and the video doesn't sway me what so ever. Nicki Minaj finally premiered her music video for her Top 10 hit "Starships".

The video was directed by Anthony Mandler (Rihanna, Fergie). By the looks of it, Nicki tried to tap into her inner Heidi Montag (Higher/Blackout). It wasn't interesting to me, so don't have much to say about it. Check out the video, after the jump.

[Single Review]: Cheryl Cole - Call My Name

Cheryl Cole's new single "Call My Name" premiered on (Friday) April 20th and its a hot ass mess. Calvin Harris (who produced Rihanna's smash single "We Found Love") is the one who did this crap. It you put the generic music RedOne has put together mixed with some David Guetta, this will be the result.

The beat is not attention grabbing, then again it did catch my attention, because it sucked so badly. The singing was very bland, weak, and isn't energetic. Hell the vocal effort she put into "Fight For This Love" and "Promise This" are far much better than what she sung here. Cheryl is not the only one who disappointed, Calvin Harris did to. You expect he would produced something with high quality. The one and only good thing about the song it is probably the lyrics, it should've been delivered with more force and confidence. Speaking of confidence, I don't hear any of that in her voice.

Cheryl does not have a strong voice, bottom line. With her releasing music like this, I don't expect her to gain some sort of success, when she crosses over into the American music market. She's not going to be able to compete with the likes of Adele, Katy Perry and whom ever else is dominating the charts a the moment. At least for the American audience, she needs to go back to the drawing board, because I know her and her team can come up with something better.

Brandy talks about "Two Eleven" album with YRB Magazine

Brandy is currently gearing up for the promotion for her long-awaited comeback album "Two Eleven". The release date for the album is scheduled to be released this June. The first single other than "It All Belongs To Me, a duet with Monica. In the interview with YRB magazine, Brandy opens up about the inspiration behind the album title, the album sound and direction, working with Frank Ocean and more. Along side doing an interview, she did photoshoot for the magazine. Brandy is sporting a short hair do and some high fashions looks.

Read some of Brandy's interview about her new album "Two Eleven" below.

On the album title:
"Some of the titles I was working with were Rebirth, Reincarnation, Reinvention, Resurrection… I just felt like Two Eleven describes all of that. It's the day I was born, and each year, I evolve and change with time," she says. "It also has a whole new meaning to it because I gained my angel. My icon is my angel now. It's all tied in there and I just think it best represents who I am and the responsibilities I have moving on".

On the album sound and direction:
Shying away from the smooth piano-infused sound of Human, Brandy roughs up her sound on Two Eleven, maintaining the powerful productions of previous records but mashing in genres outside of her comfort zone. "It's definitely R&B, but it has the crossover appeal. It’s grittier, it's edgier, it's just different type of R&B. It's not your regular smooth, soft with the beat type music," she describes. "It"s just taking risks and hearing how I sound over different types of music, and I wanted an album that different people can listen to. Not just R&B, but pop and hip-hop. I wanted everyone to have something that they can listen to on this album".

On working with Frank Ocean again:
For "Scared of Beautiful", Ocean lends his writing chops for a deeper cut about a woman coming to terms with her beauty. "His music speaks volumes, and I was able to experience that before everyone else knew," she says. "I always knew he was really special and I just wanted to see how we could vibe, what we could come up with together in the studio this time around. He's just a genius. I think his songs have so much substance and so much depth, and you need that on an album as well".
