Introducing: G.R.L.
Here we have Robin Antin's newest girl group called G.T.L. According to what I've seen in the past, they were suppose to be the new line-up of The Pussycat Dolls back in 2012. PCD went through a shit load of member changes, with the final line-up consisting of these girls. Now Miss Antin ultimately decided to scrap that idea and make a new group altogether. G.T.L. features fives members: Simone Battle, Lauren Bennett, Emmalyn Estrada, Natasha Slayton, and Paula Van Oppen. Battle released a solo single titled "He Likes Boys" (which was terrible by the way) in 2012 and was apart of the X-Factor. Bennett was once part of the Paradiso Girls and featured on LMFAO's smash hit "Party Rock Anthem". Estrada is a musician who was on "Bates Motel". Slayton a former child actress, who's been playing the guitar since the age of 13. And Van Oppen is a veteran dancer / aspiring producer.
Apparently, the process of making this group wasn't something that happened overnight.
"This is not something that happened overnight", says Van Oppen to Billboard. Bennett adds, "You have to see who fits. I think bringing people in gradually makes it more organic".
After trying see who fits and who doesn't, they've managed to release their debut single "Vacation" in June 2013. It served as the first single from the Smurfs 2 soundtrack.
"Vacation" was written and produced by Dr. Luke, Max Martin, Bonnie McKee and Henry Walter. It's a fun upbeat pop track with a synth beat and has a slightly catchy chorus. The whole thing is perfect for the summertime, which is when it was released. Even though is has some good parts, the track has generic written all over it and comes off a little kiddish. Then again what can you expect, the song was featured in a children's movie. Not going to turn them away because of one song, hopefully they'll have come with something better next time.
The music video was just OK, it wasn't nothing too interesting. You can check it out below.
