Philadelphia-based Marian Hill duo offers R&B-Jazz infused EP "Play"

Marian Hill is an electronic duo from Philadelphia. It consist of Jeremy Lloyd (writing/producer/multi-instrumentalist) and Samantha Gongol (singer/songwriter). They combine many influences ranging from Ella Fitzgerald to Drake, their music mix a electro-R&B sound with blues and jazz influences. Earlier this year, the duo released their debut EP entitled "Play".

The five-track set includes previously released singles, "One Time", "Lovit", and "Whisky" as well as two additional tracks, "Breathe Into Me" and the title track, "Play". Marian Hill have stated that "Play" is their thesis statement. As an official duo, they've spent their first six months together writing, producing, and recording this project. Both handles the writing, Lloyd is the one who creates the production while Gongol provides the vocals. I don't think it was a powerful introduction to what she can really do with her voice. I'm sure more new music is on the way and I expect Samantha to take it to the next level. Maybe their leaving the best for last, you never know. As I said before, their music has a fusion of R&B-Jazz influences. "Lovit" is the track that stands out from the others, it has a chill downtempo backing production along with infectious handclaps. You also get a bit of an trip-hop vibe as well. The EP is available to purchase on iTunes now.
