Introducing: Top Dawg Entertainment's first lady.........SZA

Meet SZA, Kendrick Lamar's newest signee to his California based hip-hop label Top Dawg Entertainment. The label is home of Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q and Jay Rock. The signing of the alternative R&B singer makes her the first lady of Top Dawg.

SZA was born Solana Rowe in St Louis, Missouri, and later moved to Maplewood, New Jersey. Her stage name 'SZA' is an acronym inspired by the Supreme Alphabet. Before entering the music industry, the singer-songwriter graduated from an Ivy League University with a degree in Marine Biology and had no intentions on pursing music. Yet, after releasing her first EP "See.SZA.Run" she managed to sign a record deal with the next year. The EP received a lot of positive feedback all due to one of the tracks. "Time Travel Undone" features seductive vocals over a dark dreamy production, which was produced by Top Notch.

Within the same year, she released her second EP entitled "S". It was another amazing collection of music and also it brought her more listeners, who were interested in her smooth alternative R&B sound. With the announcement of her record deal, came two new tracks "Julia" and "Teen Spirit". The first track "Julia" is an 80's influenced jam produced by longtime collaborator Felix Snow and Top Dawg Entertainment's Dave Free. She experiments with the pop genre, which is something SZA hasn't really stepped her foot into. Even though it has an pop touch to it, she manages to keep those emotional lyrics and melodies in the music. "Teen Spirit", produced by Jay Z's teenage associate Wondagurl (who's 16 years-old by the way). It has a slowed down trap beat where SZA sings about a past relationship. Both tracks seems to give two different tastes vibes, its a preview to what we're going to receive from her upcoming EP "Z".
