Gwen Stefani makes solo comeback with "Baby Don't Lie"

No Doubt frontwoman and The Voice coach Gwen Stefani has been hinting at a solo return for awhile now. She's finally dropped her long-awaited comeback single "Baby Don't Lie". The track serves as the first single from her upcoming third album, which is scheduled to be released this year or next year via Interscope Records. I'll be her first album since 2006's "The Sweet Escape".

"Baby Don't Lie" was written by Gwen, OneRepublic's frontman Ryan Tedder, Benny Blanco and Noel Zancanella, with Tedder and Blanco serving as the producers. Its a midtempo pop / reggae-pop / hip-hop infused track with a bassline and hand claps in the beginning. "Baby don't, baby don't, baby don't, baby don't lie…" / "I don't need to cry no longer" as she sings as part of the chorus. Lyrically, the song talks about insecurities of a relationship, where she questions the love of a man. Its not the big comeback single I was expecting, but I still like the cool laidback vibe of it. I'll interesting to see how much radio airplay it gets or how well its going to chart.

The music video was directed by Gwen's longtime collaborator Sophie Muller, who directed tons of videos for her solo career. The visual is simple, with animations and effects full of color.

The single is available to purchase on iTunes now
