Single Review: Cheryl Cole - Crazy Stupid Love (Feat. Tinie Tempah)
Now that she will be returning as a judge on The X Factor UK, Cheryl Cole is also making her musical return with the release of her fourth solo album titled "Only, Human". The lead single taken from the project is called "Crazy Stupid Love" featuring Tinie Tempah.
............... This song is just bad and I mean BAD. The most disappointing thing about "Crazy Stupid Love" is the fact that this is the same person being Wayne Wilkins who produced Cheryl's previous hit singles (that I actually loved) like "Fight For This Love" and "Promise This". The production features a simple stomping beat and a saxophone breakdown that plays through certain parts of the track. I see the use of the sax has become popular following Jason Derulo's "Talk Dirty" and Ariana Grande's hit single "Problem", it has done wonders for those songs. Unfortunately, it does nothing for this. It seems like they needed to throw another instrument in their to make it complete and decided to put it (the Saxophone) in mainly because of the trend its becoming. It was simply annoying and didn't elevate the chorus, which is suppose to be a highlight. Lyrically, theirs nothing catchy or memorable except for the title "Crazy Stupid Love". The verse from Tinie could've cared less about, but that goes for the whole song. Vocal delivery on this was terrible. Cheryl has always been a OK singer, not good or great and far from fantastic. At certain times she would sound good on a recording like 80 percent of Girls Aloud music and some of her own material like "Fight For This Love". Some of the bad would be "Messy Little Raindrops" album track/single "The Flood". She has the wrong type of voice for this, but that's not the only thing contributing to this train wreak, once again its the production and how the lyrics was written. The vocal runs toward the end, I won't even make a comment on that.
Besides "Call My Name", every lead single released and a few follow-up singles, I liked straight out the gate. "Crazy Stupid Love" is lackluster and isn't a great way to launch an album. Curious to see if this hits #1 on the UK Single Charts.
The track will be released in the UK on July 20th. Her upcoming album "Only, Human" is scheduled to hits stores in November.
