Album Review: RaNia - Time To Rock Da Show (2nd Mini-Album)

After shocking the hell out the Korean music industry with their very raunchy music video for "Dr. Feel Good" in early 2011, RaNia made their comeback in November 2011 with a new mini-album and less close-ups of the ladies private parts.

"Time To Rock Da Show" has only has three tracks, with one of them serving as a intro. I don't really understand why this being called a mini-album, when it only has two tracks on it. This is more like a single album than a actually EP. Instead of working with American producer Teddy Riley (who produced "Dr. Feel Good), their agency went with none other than producer Brave Brothers (The RedOne of Korea) who's worked with several other K-Pop groups like Brave Girls, Big Bang, T-ara and more.

Lyrical Content: (4/5)
Production: (4/5)

Time To Rock Da Show (Intro)
The intro has a lot of synths in the beginning and isn't really worth listening to. Towards the end you'll hear a few lines being sung. (2/5)

Pop Pop Pop
Wasn't feeling "Pop Pop Pop" like that at first, over time its grown a lot on me. It's fun, catchy and is definitely a huge change compared to "Dr. Feel Good". Even though the song is good, but I don't think its not the right sound for them. (4.5/5)

Goodbye
"Goodbye" is a nice mid-tempo r&b ballad, it really shows that they can actually sing. (4/5)

Verdict
I think RaNia has what is take to become a huge success, but that won't happen unless they show their full potential. Part of the problem is possibly be the producers their working with. I am sure that they can produce better songs, Brave Brothers didn't create anything groundbreaking or memorable for them. I wouldn't mind hearing them do something similar to what "Dr. Feel Good" sounded like, but much toned down.

The girls have vocal skills are excellent compared to other girl groups. Just thinking about they could be the Korean version of the Pussycat Dolls, just based on their sound ("Dr. Feel Good").

Overall Rating: (4/5)
