Alexandra Burke releases new 6-track EP "#NewRules"
When Alexandra Burke won 2008 season of X-Factor UK, she was on her way to becoming the next big R&B singer. She went on to release her debut album "Overcome" the next year, it was filled with some great R&B and Pop tracks. Burke started recording material for the follow-up album in 2010. The project ended up suffering numerous delays, but record label (Syco / RCA Records) manged to release her sophomore album "Heartbreak on Hold" in the Summer of 2012. The final product was very underwhelming for me, this was a major transition when it came to the musical direction. The R&B influences that was on her debut album got replaced with dance and house music.
As of right now, Alexandra is no longer with RCA Records and is working with Kevin Liles. He's the former President of Def Jam Records and currently manages Big Sean and Trey Songz. Together their looking to release her third album next year with a sound that fits well with her voice unlike the previous album. For a thank you to the fans, she released a new EP titled #NewRules". This 6-Track set was available to download exclusively on Mail Online.
"#NewRules" is a solid piece of work, it showcases an interesting new sound. The music give me a mixture of Coldplay meets Whitney Houston. It leans more on the urban R&B side with alternative pop thrown in. Speaking of Coldplay, she covered one of their songs on the EP called "Fix You". Hopefully for the upcoming album she'll move away from the dance/house orientated songs and embraces this sound.
