New Music: Gabriella Cilmi - The Sting

Gabriella Cilmi is abandoning the eletropop sound for a soulful one. Australian singer-songwriter is back with a new single, new sound, and even a new haircut. The track is titled "The Sting" and was written Gabriella herself. It serves as the first official single from her highly-awaited third album also called "The Sting", which is set to hit stores and digital retailers on October 28th via Sweetness Tunes / Absolute.

Cilmi first burst onto the scene in 2008 with "Sweet About Me", it hit #1 on the Australian Singles Chart. Her debut album "Lessons to Be Learned" came afterward, which featured her second hit singe "Don't Wanna Go to Bed Now". That single won her six ARIA awards including Single of the Year and Best Female Artist. Her second album "Ten" arrived in 2010, the project was lead by the catchy pop track "On a Mission". "Ten" had more of a sexy electro pop vibe compared to the first album. For her upcoming album, she decided to leave Island Records for an independent label.

"The Sting" is a lot more mature and has an organic sound. To those who loved "On a Mission", this may be a little boring for you. The track is more than likely to target a new audience. The single does has a sound similar to her critically-acclaimed debut album "Lessons to Be Learned, which was hugely successful. Maybe returning to that, could bring her career back to the top.
