For those who didn't see the 2012 Grammy Awards, Katy Perry premiered her new single "Part of Me" during her performance. The track is the first single taken from "Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection" due out in stores March 26th. The track is one of the 3 new songs included on the upcoming material. "Part of Me" was recorded sometime in 2009-2010 for the original release of "Teenage Dream" album, but it didn't make the final cut. The track has been revamped and some lyrics have been changed, possibly targeting her divorce from Russell Brand.
"You can keep the diamond ring / It don't mean nothing anyway / In fact you can keep everything / Except for me."
"Part of Me" was released digitally on (Monday) February 13th, Billboard reports that its expected to sell between 400,000 to 420,000 downloads by the end of the week. If it sells what predicted then this will be Katy's biggest debut in her career. It will also be the highest opening week for since Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" sold 448,000 copies its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The song is catchy and is not a bad song. I liked the live version that she performed at the Grammy's more than the recorded one, but I do hope it gets to the #1 spot. Due to Katy's and Russell's pending divorce, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those sells were generated for that. Check out the lyric video, after the jump.
